Education & Research
higher education
As a part-time lecturer and supervisor at BIMM University and the University of Salford, I have extensive responsibilities across several key academic areas. I oversee modules covering digital strategy, content design, project management, and digital futures for undergraduate programmes in event management, music business, and music marketing.
For BIMM University, my duties have spanned across the London and Manchester campuses included guest lecturing in Berlin. I am also a supervisor for their new masters programme and have served as an interim course leader.
DIGITAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Utilising my knowledge of digital education pedagogy and content creation skills, I take on freelance work designing courses and interactive educational content for digital environments.
My largest project to date was for BIMM University, coordinating the development and implementation of the digital teaching and learning strategy at its Manchester site. This included course and learning management system development, training delivery, and interactive digital content creation.
research
As the director of The After Lab,I have produced an R&D project with the Voctech Trust looking at the potential of video games as vocational training tools in the live music industry. In addition to a report for BIMM University on the standard of digital literacy & competency required for graduates within the music and events industry.
Current academic research work includes an R&D project for an AI education tool for neurodivergent students and an action research project on the use of digital storytelling techniques in educational settings.
Engagement PROGRAMMES
Engagement and outreach are critical to me. Each project I have produced has included engagement programme events and workshops for adults and young people. Some examples include hackathons using heritage data, workshops recreating heritage sites in Minecraft, video game-making skills events, coding workshops, VR showcases, talk programmes, and much more. I have included a selection of highlights below.
✦ Museum Engagement and Digital Workshops
For Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM), I spearheaded an ambitious initiative known as FutureMakers, exploring the intersection of technology, creativity, and cultural heritage.
We partnered with leading technologists and creatives from across the UK and the North East to answer the question: How can digital tools and experiences enhance the way visitors interact with museum collections?
✦ Enhancing Digital Skills & Creativity
As the producer and programmer I led Make Stuff, an event series touring museums, libraries, and community centres throughout Greater Manchester. Providing communities with access to creative technology demos, digital skills workshops.
The program's success led to its replication in Peshawar, North East Pakistan. It received recognition with the Best Tech for Good project award at the Big Chip Awards and Volunteer Team of the Year at the Spirit of Manchester Awards.
✦ Science Communication Festivals
As the Contemporary Science Programme Producer for Manchester Science Festival, I produced a series of creative science communication events collaborating with academic and industry partners.
In addition I delivered an in conversation event with Nobel Prize winner Andre Geim, and Museums of a New Age a commission fusing rare silent film footage with a specially created score by acclaimed composer Jean-Philippe Calvin.
